Summer 2022 Short Report

Does anyone else remember eating sugar cubes from the coffee station at church? Growing up, my friends and I would sneak past the table, trying not to be discovered, and then walk away beaming with joy as the little cubes dissolved in our mouth. I’m guessing some of you can relate to this.

Does anyone else remember eating sugar cubes from the coffee station at church? Growing up, my friends and I would sneak past the table, trying not to be discovered, and then walk away beaming with joy as the little cubes dissolved in our mouth. I’m guessing some of you can relate to this.

As an adult, chewing on sugar cubes just isn’t the same. Somehow, what we once viewed as the pinnacle of flavour, doesn’t quite live up to the hype.

If I’m honest, I had some of the same concerns when I started working here in January. Having graduated from Mount Carmel in 2008, I had incredible memories of the impact Mount Carmel had on my life. I remembered the friendships, the community, and the staff who mentored me. However, while I was thrilled to be joining Mount Carmel's staff team, I kept trying to temper my expectations. Did this one-year program actually have the impact I remembered?

It didn’t take long for my concerns to disappear. While we often focus on young adults leaving the church, it was such a strong contrast to be surrounded by students hungry to encounter God and learn from His Word. For the past five months, I've witnessed students grow and mature as they pursue what it means to seek God first. Once again, I was reminded of the impact Mount Carmel had on my own life and am grateful for the opportunity to participate in God’s work at this school. It reminds me of Paul’s words in Ephesians 3, where he prays for the church to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit, so that they might know the immeasurable love of God (Ephesians 3:16-19). Paul then closes with the statement:

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” Ephesians 3:20

I invite you to join with us in celebrating the immeasurable power the God displayed this past year in the lives of our graduating students. “To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:21)

Camp Team




We are excited to have a Mount Carmel Camp team again this summer! Our team will serve at eight different camps scattered throughout Alberta. The team consists of Zach Froehlick (leader), Achielle Boraski, Rebekah Gurnett and Liam McFetridge. Please pray for energy, love for campers, and health for our team. Mount Carmel will pay each of these people a small stipend and we welcome donations marked "Camp Team" to further support our team.
